Maria Linares is a proud alumna of California State University, Fullerton, where she earned her Master’s in Public Administration with a concentration in public policy and her Bachelor’s in Sociology with a minor in political science. Dedicated to her alma mater, she serves on the CSUF College of Humanities and Social Sciences Passage to the Future Advisory Board.

 

Before joining a 501 (c)(6) nonprofit in Orange County, as a Business Initiatives Manager, Maria contributed to the success of Cal State Fullerton in the Office of Admissions. She also served as a student trustee on the California State University Board of Trustees, a position appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom.

 

As Chief Operating Officer of RETX (Reentry Tax Extended Services Inc.), Maria oversees daily operations and supports the growth of programs that advance the mission of redefining reentry through economic empowerment. She is responsible for building organizational systems, coordinating services, and ensuring that free tax preparation, financial education, and career training are accessible to justice impacted individuals, low income families, seniors, military, and English learners.

 

Maria brings extensive experience in community engagement, leadership, and program management. In her role, Maria focuses on forging partnerships, implementing strategic initiatives, and supporting mentorship which helps ensure that RETX provides the skills and knowledge needed for individuals to thrive and pursue a prosperous future.

 

In addition to her professional responsibilities, Maria also contributes her expertise across several advisory roles including the Cal State Fullerton Center for Healthy Neighborhoods Advisory Council, the Orange Workforce Alliance Regional Leadership Council, and the Orange County Department of Education OC Pathways Executive
Committee.

 

Committed to her community, Maria resides in Tustin, where she finds fulfillment in spending quality time with her children, engaging in community service, and mentoring youth from disinvested communities. She also volunteers her time working with justice impacted individuals, dedicating her weekends to providing Introduction to College Success courses at the California Institution for Women.
