After serving over a decade in prison—including time as a Type 1 firefighter, battling wildfires alongside CAL FIRE—Jahaziel emerged with ten associate degrees and a mission to empower others through education and financial independence.

Since his release in 2022, he earned both his Bachelor’s in Accounting and Master’s in Accounting Information Systems from San Diego State University in 2025. While at SDSU, he was a Provost’s Award recipient, a scholar in the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) Scholars Program, a Lavin Entrepreneur, and an active member of Project Rebound. He was also honored with the California State University Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement, the highest student recognition across the CSU system.

Jahaziel currently serves as a Project Specialist at Southwestern College, where he works to expand educational access and support systems for incarcerated students at correctional facilities such as Richard J. Donovan (RJD). Through this role, he continues to build bridges between education and rehabilitation—working hands-on to open opportunities for currently incarcerated individuals.

His academic and entrepreneurial accomplishments have been recognized at both the institutional and national levels. He has presented at conferences such as the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE) and the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE), and has served as a guest speaker at universities including Rutgers. In 2024, he established a $55,000 true endowment at SDSU to support formerly incarcerated students—ensuring that others navigating reentry have lasting support and opportunity.
